Why Krumb Is the Brunch Spot on the Ormeau Road

Brunch is a meal that rewards quality. You are not in a rush (or you should not be). You want something that feels like a treat, not just fuel. You want good coffee. And ideally, you want to sit somewhere comfortable while all of this is happening.

Krumb ticks every box. Everything on the menu is handmade from scratch and baked fresh that morning. The coffee comes from Lucid Coffee Roasters. The ingredients are sourced from brilliant local producers. And the Ormeau Road setting is exactly the kind of neighbourhood that makes a leisurely morning feel earned.

We are open Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 4pm. Get here a bit earlier in the morning if you want the full selection, because the popular stuff does go.

The BLT on Homemade Focaccia: The Star of the Show

If you are coming for brunch on the Ormeau Road and you only try one thing, make it the BLT. This is not a supermarket sandwich. The bacon comes from Stonebridge Farm, where they raise rare-breed pigs and the flavour reflects that. The focaccia is made in house, golden on the outside, pillowy in the middle, properly good. Together they make a BLT that is very hard to stop thinking about.

It is the kind of thing that reminds you why ingredients matter and why a little bakery magic makes all the difference.

Sausage Rolls, Savoury Pies and the Gratin Danish

The BLT has stiff competition. Our sausage rolls are baked fresh every day, flaky and generous and exactly what a sausage roll should be. If you are leaning towards something lighter but still savoury, the Gratin Danish with smoked Hegarty's cheddar is a brilliant option. Rich, cheesy, built on that same buttery pastry we use throughout. A very satisfying start to the day.

We also do a vegetarian savoury pie for anyone who wants something substantial without the meat. It changes, so it is always worth asking what is in it today.

Pastries for the Sweet Brunch

If you are more of a sweet brunch person, the viennoiserie cabinet is going to make your morning. Here is what you might find.

  • Croissants. Laminated by hand, properly golden and flaky. The standard against which everything else is measured.
  • Pain au chocolat. Dark chocolate, buttery dough. Classic for a reason.
  • Cinnamon buns. Swirled, glazed, irresistible. The kind of thing that makes the table next to you immediately order one as well.
  • Pastel de nata. Silky custard tart with crisp pastry. A wee bit of Lisbon on the Ormeau Road.
  • Cruffins and danishes. When they are there, order them. That is all the advice you need.

Alongside those, there are cakes, tarts and brownies. A salted caramel brownie with a coffee at 10am is a perfectly reasonable life choice and we support you completely.

What to Drink

We use beans from Lucid Coffee Roasters for all our espresso drinks: flat white, latte, cortado, cappuccino, americano. For a brunch coffee, a flat white is hard to beat. Generous enough to drink slowly, balanced enough to let the food do its thing.

If you would rather skip the coffee, we have matcha, hot chocolate and iced coffee. And for something cold alongside your food, the Living Things sodas from our larder are a very good shout.
