Strawberry Tart Season
There are a handful of moments in the baking year that we genuinely get giddy about at Krumb, and strawberry tart season is firmly at the top of the list. When local strawberries hit their peak, sweet and sun-warm and properly ripe, there is only one thing to do: bake. Our strawberry tart in Belfast is one of those summer bakes we pour everything into, and we think you can taste it in every single bite.

A Proper Strawberry Tart, Made from Scratch
We don't do shortcuts here. Every strawberry tart that leaves our kitchen at 258 Ormeau Road starts with a buttery, hand-pressed shortcake shell baked until it's golden and just the right side of crisp. Into that goes a generous layer of rich vanilla cream, smooth and glossy, the kind that makes you close your eyes for a second. Then come the strawberries: local, peak-season, the real deal.
We work with Northern Irish producers to source the best fruit we can get our hands on, and in summer that means strawberries picked at their finest. No imported, out-of-season berries here. When you bite into one of our tarts, you're getting the actual taste of an Irish summer. Every last Krumb of it.
Why Seasonal Fruit Makes All the Difference
It's worth saying out loud: a strawberry tart is only as good as its strawberries. That's why we build our menu around what's available locally and seasonally, rather than forcing the same thing year-round. Our summer bakes in Belfast change with what's fresh, and that means when you see our strawberry tart on the counter, you know it's the right time to have it.
The shortcake base gives a lovely buttery crunch against the softness of the vanilla cream and the juicy fruit on top. It's indulgent without being heavy, sweet without being sickly. Honestly, it's the kind of thing you'll be thinking about on your walk home.
Small Batches, Baked Fresh Daily
We bake in small batches every morning, which means our strawberry tart is always fresh and always made with a bit of bakery magic. It also means they do sell out. We won't apologise for that: it's what happens when you bake properly. If you've got your heart set on one, popping in early or ordering ahead for click and collect is always a smart move.
Krumb is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 4pm, at 258 Ormeau Road, Belfast. Come in, grab a tart, find a seat, treat yourself. You've earned it.
More Summer Bakes to Explore
The strawberry tart is the star of the season, but she doesn't perform alone. Our summer bakes in Belfast shift throughout the warmer months as different fruits come into their own. We love a vibrant fruit tart in all its forms, and our counter tends to reflect whatever is looking brilliant that week.
Keep an eye on our socials or just pop your head in to see what we've been up to. Half the joy of a small artisan bakery is the little surprises waiting on the shelf. We bake it nice, so you don't have to wonder.
Questions We Get Asked
Is the strawberry tart available all year?
No, and that's the point. Our strawberry tart is a seasonal bake, made when local strawberries are at their best. That's what makes it worth waiting for. Follow us on social media for updates on when it's back each year.
Can I order a strawberry tart in advance?
Yes! Click and collect is available so you can order ahead and make sure one has your name on it. We'd recommend it, especially at weekends when things move quickly.
What is the shortcake base like?
Rich, buttery and golden with a satisfying crunch. It's a proper shortcake, handmade from scratch, not a shop-bought pastry case. It holds the vanilla cream and strawberries beautifully without going soft.
