The Best Coffee on the Ormeau Road

A great coffee can make a morning. A bad one can ruin it. On the Ormeau Road, you do not have to gamble. Krumb Bakery at 258 Ormeau Road is a proper coffee shop in Belfast, one that takes its coffee as seriously as its baking, which is saying something.

The Coffee at Krumb: A Coffee Shop on the Ormeau Road That Gets It Right

We use beans from Lucid Coffee Roasters, one of Northern Ireland's most respected roasters. The beans are chosen carefully and the espresso is pulled with attention. It is the foundation of everything we pour, and it shows in the cup.

Whether you drink flat whites, lattes, cortados, cappuccinos or americanos, the coffee at Krumb is going to be consistently good. Not showy. Not over-extracted. Just well-made coffee that tastes like it was made by someone who cares. Because it was.

We also do matcha, hot chocolate and iced coffee for those who want something different. And if you want to take a little bit of Krumb home, we sell our own homemade vanilla, caramel and brown sugar syrups in bottles from the larder. A very good shout.

Why Lucid Coffee Roasters?

Choosing Lucid was an easy decision. They are Northern Irish, they take their craft seriously, and their beans have genuine character. Sourcing locally matters to us throughout the bakery, from Stonebridge Farm bacon to Hegarty's and Ballylisk cheeses, and the coffee is no different. We want every element of what we serve to reflect the best of what is being made right here.

There is also something satisfying about sitting in a Belfast cafe on the Ormeau Road, drinking coffee roasted in Belfast. It feels like it should, somehow.

Coffee and a Bake: The Combination

Coffee on its own is lovely. Coffee with something fresh from the Krumb oven is something else entirely. Here are a few pairings we particularly enjoy.

  • Flat white and a croissant. The classic. The croissant is laminated by hand, properly golden and flaky. The flat white is clean and slightly creamy. They are made for each other.
  • Cortado and a pastel de nata. A wee bit of Lisbon on the Ormeau Road. The intensity of the cortado balances the sweet custard of the nata perfectly.
  • Americano and a salted caramel brownie. Dark, rich coffee meets dark, fudgy brownie with a hit of salt. Genuinely excellent.
  • Latte and a lemon meringue tart. The softer milk notes in a latte let the citrus of the curd do its thing. Bright and lovely.

None of this is accidental. When you bake from scratch and serve coffee from a roaster you believe in, the whole experience hangs together. That is the goal.

A Proper Coffee Stop on the Ormeau Road

The Ormeau Road has no shortage of places to get a coffee, but Krumb stands out because the coffee programme is built into the whole bakery ethos rather than bolted on. Everything here, from the sourdough to the espresso, is made or chosen with genuine care.

We are open Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 4pm, at 258 Ormeau Road, Belfast BT7 2FZ. The cabinet fills up in the morning and empties as the day goes on, so earlier is generally better if you want the full range. But the coffee is brilliant right through to close.

Questions We Get Asked

Do you do decaf?

Speak to us in the bakery. We do our best to accommodate different preferences and it is always worth asking.

Can I buy the coffee beans to take home?

Check our retail larder when you visit. We stock a range of items to take home, and availability of beans can change. Worth popping in to see what we have.

Is the coffee good enough to come in just for that?

Yes. Absolutely yes. Although we suspect you will leave with a pastry too. We are not sorry about that.
