Handmade scones and pastries at Krumb Bakery Belfast, served fresh from the cabinet on the Ormeau Road

Scones, the Right Way

A good scone is a simple thing done properly. Crisp on the outside, soft and light in the middle, and best eaten while still warm. At Krumb Bakery on the Ormeau Road, our scones in Belfast are handmade from scratch every morning. No shortcuts. Just proper baking.

What Scones in Belfast Should Actually Taste Like

There is a version of a scone that sits under a glass dome for three days and tastes of nothing. That is not what we do. At Krumb, our scones are baked fresh daily in small batches, which means by the time they land in the cabinet they are exactly as they should be. Golden on top, tender inside, with just enough structure to hold a generous spread.

We make plain scones, fruit scones and seasonal variations depending on what we are enjoying in the kitchen. The base is always the same: handmade from scratch, with good quality ingredients sourced from producers we trust.

How to Eat a Scone the Right Way

Look, we are not getting into the cream-first debate. What we will say is this: do not skip the butter. A freshly baked scone with good butter and a cup of tea is one of life's genuinely great pleasures. We serve our tea from Good and Proper, which is exactly the kind of quality we look for across everything we offer.

A few ideas for making the most of yours:

  • Warm, straight from the cabinet. Always the move. Ask us to warm one through if you like.
  • With proper tea. We brew Good and Proper English Breakfast Tea at Krumb. Pair it with a scone for a proper afternoon treat.
  • As part of a longer visit. Order a coffee from our Lucid Coffee Roasters beans, grab a scone and settle in. Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 4pm, 258 Ormeau Road.

Scones as Part of Afternoon Tea in Belfast

Scones are the heart of any good afternoon tea in Belfast, and at Krumb they sit alongside our full cabinet of handmade bakes. Think lemon meringue tart, strawberry tart, financiers, salted caramel brownies and our Cutie Pies mini tarts. If you are putting together a spread for a celebration or a wee gathering, there is plenty to choose from.

We also offer gift cards if you want to send someone for a proper treat. Birthdays, thank yous, just because. A Krumb gift card is always a good idea.

Handmade From Scratch, Every Day

Krumb was opened in 2024 by Sadhbh Baker, who spent 15 years working in some of Ireland's best bakeries. Everything you eat here comes from that experience and from a genuine love of craft baking. Small batches, fresh every day, made properly. That is the whole idea.

We champion local and independent producers across everything we make and serve. From the olive oil in our focaccia to the coffee in your cup, we care about where things come from. Our scones are no different. The ingredients matter. The process matters. The result is a bake worth coming back for.

These are the kind of bakes that do not need to shout about themselves. A great scone just is what it is. Come and try one.
